Can I load half or partial pills into the Hero smart dispenser?

Updated over a month ago

Partial or fractions of tablets cannot be added to the app medication list/schedule, nor loaded directly into the Hero smart dispenser as they may interfere with the vacuum system used to dispense the pills, leading to blockage and failure to dispense. However, if half or partial pills are first placed inside empty gelatin capsules, they can then be loaded into the Hero smart dispenser and dispensed as usual.

Important: Make sure to first check with your doctor or pharmacist to determine whether encapsulating a partial pill is appropriate for you and your medication. You may also ask your doctor about writing future prescriptions dispensable in whole tablets, when appropriate and available.

Additionally, inquire about alternative formulations such as larger pills, different brands, or strengths that might be better suited for automatic dispensing devices.

Remember, if a medication cannot be stored inside Hero, you can still add the medication to your schedule in the Hero app so that you can track adherence and receive reminders when it’s time to take your dose.

For split or irregular pills, keep them stored outside the device and use the app's reminder feature to manually administer doses on time.
