To add a new medication to Hero, remove an old one, or modify a medication dosage, check out our video tutorial or follow the instructions below.
To Add a New Medication
In the Hero App:
Open the Hero app and go to the ‘Meds’ tab.
Select ‘List’, then tap the ‘+’ button in the top right corner.
Enter the name of your medication and follow the on-screen instructions.
When prompted, tap ‘Let’s do it’ to begin loading the medication.
On the Hero Device:
Smart dispenser will display medication name and ask you to press the center button to open the smart dispenser door, and
Pull the cartridge out by pinching the bottom.
Pour in your pills, staying below the MAX line.
Push the cartridge back in until you hear a click, then close the door.
Confirm all done on the smart dispenser.
To Remove a Medication You No Longer Take
In the Hero App:
Open the Hero app and go to the ‘Meds’ tab.
Select the medication you want to remove.
Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove Medication.
On the Hero Device:
Select Confirm → Okay to remove it.
The cartridge door will open showing the medication name.
Remove the cartridge and empty any remaining pills.
Clean the cartridge with a light alcohol swab (do not put it in the dishwasher).
Reinsert the empty cartridge until it clicks, then close the door.
Tap Okay on the dispenser and Close in the app to finish.
Tip: If you remove the medication from the app first, you must remove it from the smart dispenser before making any other changes (the Hero app will display 'confirming changes on Hero', to remind you to go to the smart dispenser.)
Modifying Medication Dosages
General Guidelines for Adjusting Medication Dosages
If you need to update the quantity of your medication dosage (e.g., changing from 1 capsule to 2 capsules), follow these steps:
Open the Hero app on your smartphone.
Navigate to the Meds tab and select the medication you wish to adjust from the list.
Tap on the schedule for that specific medication.
Locate the field that specifies the number of pills per dose and increase (or decrease) the quantity as required.
Save your updated schedule. This change will automatically synchronize with the Hero dispenser and app.
How to Change Medication Dose Strength
When changing the overall strength of a medication (e.g., switching from 100 mg to 300 mg), Hero treats this as a new medication. This is because the dose strength adjustment alters the fundamental labeling and dispensing requirements. Follow these steps for dose strength adjustments:
Remove the current medication entry from your Meds list. To do this, tap on the medication and confirm its removal.
Note: The Hero dispenser will guide you through removing the associated pills currently loaded in the machine.
Once removed, re-add the medication under its new dosage strength via the app.
During this step, simply select the updated milligram dose as you input the prescription information.
Load the updated medication into the Hero dispenser as prompted by the on-screen instructions.
To Change a Medication’s Storage (Inside ↔ Outside the Smart Dispenser)
To switch a medication from inside to outside, or vice versa, you must remove it completely and add it again in the Hero app.
From Inside → Outside
Remove the medication from the app and device.
Tap ‘+’ in the Hero app to add it again.
Enter the name of your medication and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, choose Store Outside Dispenser.
Complete the setup following the app instructions — Hero will now track doses.
From Outside → Inside
Remove the medication from the app.
Tap ‘+’ in the Hero app to add it again.
Enter the name of your medication and follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, choose Store Inside Dispenser.
When the dispenser door opens, load the medication:
Pull the cartridge out by pinching the bottom.
Pour in your pills below the MAX line.
Push the cartridge back in until you hear a click, then close the door.
Confirm in the app and on your device to finish setup.
