There are two types of passcodes available on the Hero smart dispenser:
Menu access passcode
Menu access passcode blocks access to entire dispenser menu. It is commonly used to prevent others from accessing menu settings or dispensing unscheduled meds (as-needed or future dose) - like a “digital lock” to the device. Only scheduled dose dispense will be available on the dispenser without any passcode entry.
If you forget the passcode, you can retrieve it using the Hero app. Open the app, tap More, then Settings & notifications, then Enable passcodes and you can see passcodes you've enabled.
To set up Menu access passcode
Open the Hero App
Passcodes can only be set in the Hero app. Once set, you will have to input the passcode on the smart dispenser whenever you are dispensing unscheduled doses or accessing dispenser settings.
Navigate to the "More" tab.
Select "Settings & Notifications."
Tap "Enable Passcodes."
Choose "Create menu access passcode."
Set Your Passcode
Enter a 4-digit passcode to enable the feature.
The app will confirm the new setting, and the Hero dispenser will update automatically. It is essential to understand that unauthorized physical access to the device may still be possible, so it should be placed in a safe, supervised location.
Dispense passcode
Dispense passcode blocks dispense of selected meds. It is commonly used to prevent children from dispensing meds when Hero alerts for a scheduled dose.
To enable a 4-digit medication dispense passcode on your Hero dispenser:
Open the Hero app and navigate to More > Settings & Notifications > Enable passcodes > Create dispense passcode.
Use the arrows to set a four-digit passcode (any combination of numbers 1,2,3, and 4).
Select the medications you want to require a passcode for. Tap Next.
Note: Remember, enabling the passcode is optional. You can manage passcodes for specific medications at any time by navigating to Meds > Select Medication > Dispense Passcode.
FAQs
What if I forget the passcode? Access the Hero app to see your passcode in the More menu.
Can a caregiver set the passcode using their app? Yes, providing they are the admin, they can use the Hero app to set the passcode.
How can I prevent my loved one from dispensing doses earlier than scheduled?
By default, Hero allows scheduled doses to be dispensed up to 30 minutes before the scheduled time. You can disable this option through the Hero mobile app:
More > Settings & Notifications > Dispense Settings > Dispense Window > Uncheck the 30 min checkbox
If you would like to prevent your loved one from dispensing future doses, we recommend enabling a Main menu access passcode for added control. More > Settings & Notifications > Enable passcodes
If you're navigating the Hero dispenser and need to return to the Main Menu, press the Left arrow button to go back. The Down arrow allows you to select options like Refill or browse the medication list.
